3.3. CRISS CROSS ANDALUSIA

CRISS CROSS ANDALUSIA is a 6-day challenge for gravels, which has rather character of mutual winter camp of participants of UltraBikers Cup. The main goal of this event will again be to ride a fair portion of kilometers before the new season in the warm weather, get to know a new landscape and share experiences and possibly costs (for accommodation, transport, etc.) with other UltraBikers. All this in a slightly competitive spirit, or in the fight for the first points for the UB Cup 2024.

After first camp on Cyprus in 2023, we chose Spanish region of Andalusia (area around Málaga) as the destination for 2024 edition and will be happy to welcome riders from all over the world.

DATE, START AND FINISH OF STAGES

Criss Cross Andalusia event will take place from March 3-8, 2024.

Start of all stages will always be at 8.30, from the same place on the edge of smal town Torre del Mare (approx. 45km east of Málaga), where (with the exception of one stage) the finish of all stages will be, always at the same bar on the beach 😉

HOW TO GET THERE?

Transportation to the event is handled by each participant individually, or by agreement with other event participants.

The organizer of the event (along with another group of participants) flies to Malaga from Wroclaw (PL) on Saturday 2/3/2024 at 15:00 (with WizzAir) and arrives at 18:50.

A number of low-cost airlines fly to Malaga from Central Europe. Specifically on Saturday 2th March. e.g.:
PRAGUE – MÁLAGA with SmartWings at 16:30
VIENNA – MÁLAGA with WizzAir at 6:05
BUDAPEST – MÁLAGA with WizzAir at 16:55
KRAKOW – MÁLAGA with WizzAir at 5:30
NUREMBERG – MALAGA with RyanAir at 6:05

Return ticket prices (in November 2023) ranged between 110-300 euros, excluding the cost of transporting the bike (usually 45-60 euros per one way).

To search for specific flights, we recommend e.g. www.azair.com

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation in Torre del Mar will be arranged individually by event participants, or by mutual agreement between themselves (e.g. via a WhatsApp group). On website for searching accomodation like Booking.com, you can find 4-bed apartments for less than 100 euros / week / person.

There are regular buses between Málaga and Torre del Mar, with a transfer in the center of Málaga.

SURFACE AND ROADS

The aim of planning of each stage was to criss cross Andalusia, visit its main attractions, ride into all directions from BaseCamp and lead routes along as many different roads as possible.

The vast majority of stages are led on lower class roads, but some shortcuts will lead more on paved roads.

For participation in the event, a gravel bike with medium to wide tires of 36mm+ will be recommended.

The routes of any stage have not been personally ridden by organizer! They are prepared only via the Internet, and the event organizer does not always guarantee a high-quality road surface.

CHARITY CHALLENGE: WE TRAIN FOR MIKI!

In connection with above, event participants do not pay any entry fee in advance.

After the event, participants will be able to send a voluntary contribution for the organization, while the event organizer will only deduct the costs for flight ticket and bike transport from money amount collected, the proceeds will be transferred to UB Cup charity program, through which we raise funds to support young disabled athlete Miki Rak, in his battle with cerebral palsy.

CRISS CROSS ANDALUSIA STAGE ITINERARY

Five pairs of stages with a length of 120-187 km are prepared for the participants of the event (a long and a short route each day, with a mutual start and an first section). If your goal is not to collect as many points as possible for UltraBikers Cup, you can shorten or adjust routes as desired (in this case, you get points based on the number of kilometers traveled on fixed routes).

One stage (tentatively the 4th) will be marked as „recovery“ – it will be only cca 90 km long and all finishers of complete route will get same amount of points for UB Cup, regardless of time.

The order of the stages can be slightly rearranged by agreement with the participants (e.g. according to the weather).

Event participants do not necessarily have to complete all stages, and if the event itinerary does not suit some of them (e.g. they have a different day of arrival or departure), they will be able to ridefixed routes of the stages individually before/after the dates of their mass start.
